Dr. JoAnn Fisher, Chief Executive Officer
Dr. JoAnn Fisher received her Ed.D. from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Her dissertation, entitled, Female Leaders in a State-Level Disabled American Veterans Organization, was requested by the DAV Department of Maryland. Six Past Department Commanders were concerned with why there were so few women veterans joining the DAV, applying for leadership positions, and advancing. The environment has changed and more women were placed in key leadership positions. Dr. Fisher has a BA in Applied Behavioral Science in Management, a MS in Management, and an Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership with a minor in Early Childhood. Presently Dr. Fisher works as a private tutor, has worked as a substitute teacher, and administrator/teacher for a yearly Summer Literacy Camp for disadvantage youth. Her other areas of involvement and concerns are politics, community activism, and women veterans. She is presently the CEO and founder of the Women Veterans United Committee, Inc. (WVUCI) which was established in 2015 as a 501(c)3. She has served as Chair of the Women Veterans Committee at State level with the Disabled American Veterans service organization in Washington, DC and Maryland and is known widely for her work with women veterans. Working with an outstanding team of veteran men and women, Dr. Fisher’s greatest accomplishment was the 2014 DAV Women Veterans Committee event at the US Capitolwith Senator McCain and Delegate Tammy Duckworth as guest speakers. Dr. Fisher does a great deal of work organizing events and opportunities for women veterans to obtain information for jobs, filing claims to receive benefits, as well as, quality assistance for improving their life. Her goal is to reach out to more women veterans and getting them to join veteran service organizations in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. Presentlythere are over 200,000 women veterans in the area of varying ages and needs.
