Mike Sater, Founding Member
Mike “Maddog” Sater graduated from North Carroll High School in Hampstead, MD. He enlisted in the US Army shortly after graduation and was sent to Vietnam. After serving in the Army he went to work at the General Motors plant in Baltimore. He was a Life Member of the DAV and VFW and served as the Commander and Adjutant for Purple Heart Chapter 577. Mike was a Past Commander of the DAV Chapter 22 in Westminster, MD and Past Commander DAV State of Maryland. He also served as the Assistant Adjutant Department of MD and the Service Officer for VFW Post 467 in Westminster. Mike was a member of the DAV Department Finance Committee, Maryland Service Foundation, Women Veterans Committee, National Commanders and Adjutants Association, National Interim Employment Committee and American Legion Post 200. He also served as the Treasurer for the DAV 6th District, Delegate for the JVC and a Commissioner on the Maryland Military Monument Commission. Mike worked closely with Carroll County Government and State Agencies to get a transportation system for the veterans of Carroll County. This transportation system has been named in his memory. He was a member of the Carroll County Veteran’s Council and served on the Carroll County Circle of Caring. His passion was working one on one with the veterans to get their health care and C & P.
Mike “Maddog” Sater was named Maryland Veteran of the Year for 2014 by the Joint Veterans Committee of Maryland. This committee consisted of delegates from Am Vets, Catholic War Veterans, Disabled American Veterans, Marine Corp League, Purple Heart and VFW.
Mike was married to his wife Barbara for 44 years. They have two daughters, Holly and Heather, a son-in-law Josh and two grandchildren Connor and Caitlin. He loved to golf, travel and ride his Harley motorcycle.
